Ginger Ale

What is up with Ginger Ale? Why am I only drawn to it when I’m 35,000 feet up? I’m not the only one either. I’ve sat next to countless people who order a Ginger Ale at the same time as me, which inevitably leads to a discussion about how we only get it on planes, but never a reason why.Does it go great with tiny bags of salted peanuts or pretzels? Was there some subliminal marketing campaign in the past that convinced everyone it was the perfect inflight beverage?

I’ve heard there’s some medicinal/health benefit of ginger ale, but that’s gotta be BS, or at least something of the past before they stripped out all the nutrients to add more corn syrup. But if that’s still the perception, it could be that people are trying to help their immune systems a little while they’re sharing recycled air in a crowded cabin. But then why not drink orange juice?

…it’s a mystery.
