I’m writing this post using the iPhone app for wordpress. I just realized two things: I don’t get to use the auto-HTML helpers that are in the web interface; and it sucks trying to code on the iPhone. It just replaced “href” with “greg”. So that’s probably the last link I’ll make. Continue Reading »
This summer I helped my friend Sven create his first website. He was doing private soccer training to earn some money, and so he created privatesoccertraining.com. I was blown away that he was actually able to get that domain name. Whenever I search for a domain name I want, every possible version of it has been taken by cyber squatters. The other day we were talking about his site, and came up with the idea of turing it into a registry of private soccer trainers. We decided to meet for a few hours this last Sunday and see how much we could get done. Continue Reading »
Every year during the Apple keynote at the MacWorld Expo, the MacRumors team provides an update feed to let everyone know what Apple is announcing. This year, towards the beginning of the keynote, strange messages started showing up in the feed. The first one saying, “STEVE JOBS JUST DIED.” It seemed like that might be just a joke, since Steve wasn’t even at the keynote anyway, but a few lines later read, “Retraction: Steve jobs did not just die. Don’t know how that got in there.” Soon after a few other strange messages showed up, including a link to one of the hacker’s websites. Shortly after that the entire MacRumorsLive website went down.
One of Sevenwire’s main development projects right now is video transcoding software called Zencoder. This is a great project for many reasons. For one, Sevenwire owns a portion of the company, meaning that if it succeeds we’ll profit from it. Client work is fine and all, but to have a project that brings in more than just income from developer hours would be awesome.
I’ve been considering traveling a lot lately, possibly even moving to another country. One of the biggest concerns I have about doing this is how to deal with mail. I don’t think my banks and credit card companies would appreciate me switching to an international address, and I don’t really want sensitive mail like that going through international mail anyway. The other day I was point to a website that could possibly solve this issue. Earth Class Mail. Continue Reading »
I wrote a post on the Sevenwire blog about my strategy for using Spaces, the multiple desktop feature of Mac OS X Leopard.
One of the first iPhone apps I downloaded was Pandora, an internet radio application based on the Music Genome Project. For some reason though I never actually tried it out until just recently. I’ve never been a big fan of internet radio, mostly because I prefer listening to something I know while I’m working, so it doesn’t distract me. Continue Reading »
Merry Christmas! So for Christmas I got my parents a Wii and Wii Fit. I figured it would be a good way for them to stay active during the winter months. Now I’m wishing I got one for myself too. I knew the Wii was a great system, but Wii Fit is pretty sweet itself. The game comes with a balance board that can sense front to back, and side to side balance. It may not seem like you could do a whole lot with that, but they came up with a ton of balance games and exercises that incorporate the board. I’m in pretty decent shape, and some of the exercises were really giving me a workout. If you have the means and need to get in shape I highly recommend it.
